Emerging Artist Recital @ Boston Court Pasadena

JUN 9, 8PM

Emerging Artists Series
Mentored & Accompanied by Brent McMunn

Baritone Ian Walker makes his Boston Court debut as part of our 2018 Emerging Artists Series. This Series, back for a 2nd year following a successful launch in 2017, pairs talented young musicians with acclaimed mentors who develop a special program showcasing the young artist’s unique skills and musical viewpoint.

"Dear friends, I'm thrilled to share with you my latest foray into the musical universe. In this concert I will continue to explore songs (including, but not limited to 'art songs') as a complex and personal art-form. Brent McMunn will join me on piano, and together we've designed a really special program that will feature each of our unique musical practices. Built around the themes of Poetic Love and Chivalric Love, this concert will feature the music of Robert Schumann, Rufus Wainwright, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Lee Hoiby, Hugo Wolf, Rinde Eckert, and Leonard Bernstein. Alyssa Wills will make a special guest appearance, and I'm working with the amazing Mark Saltzman on the concept and design and dramatic content of the show. I feel so lucky to have such an amazing team for this concert, and I can't wait to share the results with you all! To buy tickets, click the button below, or go to bostoncourtpasadena.org"

Chorus and Stilt Walking/Juggling in OSB's MANON

Soft silks and delicious taffetas. Ropes of pearls against bare skin. Candlelight reflected in exquisite gilt mirrors. This is the boudoir world of rococo France, where a woman’s face is her fortune. Manon learns early that men will give her anything because she is young and beautiful. She’s happy to play the game, until she makes the fatal mistake of falling in love.

This scandalous story of love, lust and greed became an instant sensation in 18th Century Paris. We bring it to life once more in a sumptuous production featuring a large, talented cast and orchestra, and the most magnificent costumes we have ever put on the Granada stage.

Sung in French with English surtitles

Conducted by Kostis Protopapas, Directed by Kristine McIntyre.

I am so excited to sing my premier show with Opera Santa Barbara! This performance will be beautiful, colorful, and dramatic. Come for the singing, stay for the stilt walking and juggling!
